Today we are excited to announce leadership changes to our engineering team. The new team comprised of Harrison Strowd (CTO), Darby Frey (VP Engineering), Shay Howe (VP Product) and Sean Wolter (VP Mobile), combined with 5 new engineering hires in the past 2 months, will bring our soon-to-be released enterprise platform to market.

This announcement follows the departure of Fred Lee, who served as our VP Engineering and then CTO since early 2014. On behalf of all of us at Belly, we want to recognize and thank Fred for his guidance and wisdom. Belly would not be where it is today without him.

“Belly’s engineering team has always been led by phenomenal engineers,” said Strowd. “We have such a strong team company-wide and I’m looking forward to executing on our vision of making businesses of all sizes personal.”

CEO Logan LaHive echoed Harrison’s enthusiasm. “We’re a tech company, so we’re committed to building the best engineering team in Chicago. The talent of the current leadership is second to none.”

Here’s a little bit about our new engineering leaders:

Harrison Strowd has led engineering teams in Chicago for the past five years. As the Director of Software Development at ClairVista, he was responsible for national and international deployments with companies like Hertz and Staples. During his tenure at Enova Financial (ENVA), he led its international team. Strowd holds a Masters in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon.

Darby Frey is an active senior engineer in Chicago tech, leading engineering roles at Pawngo, Groupon (GRPN) and the Starter League before building out Belly’s Platform team in 2014. During his time as a consultant, he worked with startups to Fortune 500 companies and even some Hollywood personalities including 20th Century Fox, Mattel, Paramount Pictures, Toyota and Jessica Biel.

Shay Howe specializes in product design and interface development, areas in which he regularly writes and speaks about. In 2014, he wrote "Learn to Code HTML and CSS" published by New Riders. Additionally, he is a board member of DESIGNATION and Prota Ventures, and co-founder of Chicago Camps.

Sean Wolter joined Belly in 2015 to lead the mobile development team. He is also a mentor at Mobile Makers Academy. Prior to Belly, he was the Director of iOS Engineering at Vokal. He holds a Masters in E-Commerce Technology from DePaul.
