CHICAGO, Ill. – Belly, the industry-leading digital loyalty solution, today announced Sean Wolter as Director of Mobile. Wolter will lead Belly’s iOS team. He joins Belly from Vokal, a Chicago-based digital agency specializing in mobile apps, where he’d been leading their iOS department since 2011.
“Everyone I’ve met at Belly is passionate and clever,” said Wolter. “Through my conversations with the team here I’m able to see how and why Belly will move forward. It’s rare to find passion, talent and vision in one place; Belly’s got all three.”
At Vokal, Wolter built and scaled its iOS team. In 2013, he became Director of iOS Engineering and developed the processes, standards and tools that enabled his team to deliver excellent products to their clients. Wolter and his colleague Ellen Shapiro also launched Vokal’s Apprenticeship program, which allowed the business to cultivate tremendous entry-level talent.
“It’s near impossible to find talented iOS developers,” said Wolter. “Apple’s software development tools and APIs are easy to learn, but difficult to master. As such, we looked for passionate, driven candidates that we could mentor. We’d train anyone with the will to learn, whether an apprentice or an experienced engineer from another platform.”
During his tenure at Vokal, Wolter grew the team from 4 to 21 people and in 2015 was instrumental in revamping Vokal’s modified-Scrum process, a software development methodology for shipping products.
His mentorship in Chicago tech extends to NSCoder, which he took over in 2013. NSCoder is the most esteemed Chicago meetup for Mac and iOS developers and Wolter still leads this program today.
Wolter joins Belly on the heels of Belly Complete, Belly’s comprehensive marketing suite, and the announcement that it is working with Apple as a signed partner.
“Our agreement with Apple means we’re putting more focus on building the best mobile experiences for both our members and merchants and we need the best talent in order to do that,” said Fred Lee, Executive Vice President of Engineering at Belly. ”With Sean leading our mobile team, we’re confident that this partnership with Apple will truly transform how retailers use their iOS devices to run their businesses.”
“Apple’s partners, from IBM to Belly, are all onboard to make iOS a business standard,” said Wolter. “With the full support of Apple, Belly is poised to dramatically accelerate growth for business of all shapes and sizes.”
